The Mylapore Institute for Indigenous Studies is an outgrowth of
an ongoing research programme that has for its primary focus the
CHURCHES OF INDIGENOUS ORIGINS in India. The Institute was conceived
to suppliment and facilitate research as an essential part of continuing
education. Research has documented the esistence of a little-known,
vigorous indigenous Christianity in India.
"The emergece of independent churches around the world expressing
indigenous forms of Christianity is undermining the equation of
Christianity with Western culture," states Paul Hiebert. In
the face of rising religious fundamentalism this reality is particularly
timely for India today.
Leaders from the inddigenous Church groups have a stroy to tell.
They need to be helped to preserve and promote indigenous Christianity
through building a credible biblical theological foundation. MIIS
offers a new way forward.
